Writers’ Circle

Please note: the group is not currently meeting. We will update the blog, facebook and twitter when the workshops resume.

“I never wrote so much, or dreamed up so many ideas, in so short a time!”

– feedback from a November session

CAKE Writers Circle is a group based in Central Manchester for writers new and old, whether you write short stories, novels, scripts, poetry or recipes.

The group is run as a workshop, with different creative exercises to help you come up with ideas and try out new ways of writing and exploring your imagination.

The sessions are also open to non-writers who’d like to come along and listen without bringing work, as long as you’re willing to offer feedback to others.

We meet on the first and third Sunday of every month from 1-3.

Nexus Art Café, Dale Street. We meet in ‘The Nook’ which is just off to one side of the main café.

How much?
At the moment the group is FREE. We hope to organise paying writers events which will have a concession fee, and the profits will go towards running CAKE.shortandsweet.

If you’re not based in Manchester, try out one of our weekly Wednesday Write-ins, or join our CAKE.writers group on Scribophile!

  6. Hey CAKE I’m visiting Manchester from Ipswich and just picked up ‘Three Broken Ribs’ from Travelling Man – had to find you online to say how much I loved the material in the anthology. Incredible writing. I didn’t realise you met in Nexus, that’s where I’d just left when I found your book, what a location! Wishing you continued creativity and lots more ideas in 2014. Michael

    • Hi Michael,
Thank you firstly for buying the book! I’m delighted that you enjoyed it, and I will pass on your words to the group if you don’t mind. Hope you’re enjoying your time in Manchester 🙂

  7. Hi, I would love to come along to the writers circle on a Sunday. I have just regained my thirst for reading again and my long term ambition is to write a fantasy novel for children. But for now I am just starting out. Can I just turn up? Natalie.

    • Hi Natalie,

You can absolutely just turn up, although the group is currently on suspend for a few weeks. I’ll update the blog when we’re back online 🙂 The space in Nexus is still reserved for us if you want to go in and use the time to write, there just won’t be a formal workshop.

    • Hi Lizzy! You’re more than welcome to come along, although we are not currently meeting for regular workshop groups. We are, however, planning a series of all-day workshops throughout the year, the first one being this Saturday (March 1st).

If you think you might be interested, have a look here 🙂 – any questions, just ask!

  8. Hi Sarah, If you could let me know of any further workshops and when the writer’s circle begins again that’d be great. Thanks.

  9. Hi Sarah, Do you the writer’s circle will start up again at all? What you do seems really interesting and fun. Natalie.

    • Hi Natalie,

I don’t intend to start the writer’s circle again at the moment – I’m afraid I’m currently too busy with work. However, I am running full day writing workshops roughly every 6-8 weeks with a colleague, you can find more information about it here!

We will also be running shorter, donation-only events at museums and galleries etc around Manchester 🙂 I really hope you’ll come along to one, I think you’d get a lot out of it! They’re aimed at new writers as well as more experienced ones, but please do let me know if you have any questions!

      • Ah ok. Yeah will certainly look out for the events. Am just starting out so its good to get as much experience as possible! Thank you XX

  10. Hi,
Reading Room Cafe Project Publishing has just launched 2 new writing competitions and we were wondering if it would be OK to send you the details? We know that writers groups probably get pestered like this all the time so it’s fine to say no or to ignore us. prizes include publication, cash and copies of the books.
    Thanks for your time.

    Kind regards

  11. I would be interested in joining this group. I live in Manchester and I am looking for new poetry groups to share my small poems about nature and wildlife. I am also self published and would like to share the books.
